More than 45,000 illegal immigrants and refugees have reached Europe through the Mediterranean Sea since the beginning of the 2019, that is, in the last seven and a half months. 859 people of them were drowned in the sea.
The United Nations International Migration Agency (IOM) said this in a report released on Friday (August 23).
More than half of the total migrants and refugees migrating to Europe have taken refugee in Greece.
Out of a total of 45,000, 23 thousand 1 hundred 93 illegal immigrants and refugees have come to Greece this year.
In this year the first seven and a half months, about 4,664 immigrants entered Italy. During the same period last year, about 1,9492 immigrants entered Italy.
About 83 percent of the total immigrants enter Greece and Spain. In Greece this year, along with 23 thousand 1 hundred 93 people, 14680 illegal immigrants and refugees entered Spain.
