37 Bangladeshis among 71 migrants rescued on route to Italy

Tunisian authorities rescued 71 migrants including 37 Bangladesh nationals as their boat began to sink after setting out from neighbouring Libya for Europe, the National Guard said.

According to Tunisia's National Guard, AFP reported that all those rescued in the Sinking boat were found to be safe and secure on Monday night.

On Tuesday, Tunisian National Guard spokesman Hosem Eddin Jebeli said, ‘the boat started entering the island of Karaikanah, from the western city of Jawara in Tripoli, and the water entered the boat. Shortly after, the boat sank.

According to AFP, 37 rescued migrants have rescued, 8 are Moroccan and Egyptians, 7 are Algerians, 4 Sudanese, 2 Chad and 1 Tunisia citizen.

Note that On July 4, on the same route from the Mediterranean Sea to Libya to Italy, 80 migrants, including 1 Bangladeshi, were killed in the boat. Earlier on May 10, at least 65 people were killed in a boat sinking on the coast of Tunisia. Among the dead, at least 37 were Bangladeshi citizens.
