According to skin experts acne is caused due to different factors including the skin producing too much oil, which clogs pores, dead skin cells buildup, which has the same effect, presence of bacteria in the pores and inflammation of the skin. Here’s how you can prevent acne.
WASH YOUR FACE TWICE DAILY:
Use a mild cleanser and warm water twice daily. Avoid overdoing it because that can dry your skin, aggregating the acne if already there.
CLEAN EVERYTHING THAT TOUCHES YOUR FACE:
Make sure to clean surfaces that your face comes in contact with on a regular basis. This list includes pillows, windows, make-up brushes and your phone screen.
AVOID SCRUBS AND SPONGES:
If your skin is prone to acne, avoid scrubs or using a sponge on it as it will only aggravate the condition.
Try an over-the-counter acne product:
These acne products don't need a prescription. Most of them have ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid, which curb bacteria and dry your skin. They may cause drying or peeling so start with a small amount at first. Then you can adjust how much you use and how often. Another option is a new OTC topical retinoid gel (Differin 0.1% gel). It works to actually keep the acne from forming. Use these products with caution if you have sensitive skin.
MAKE SURE YOUR HAIR IS CLEAN:
Regularly wash your hair, to ensure you get rid of any excess oil on it. Also ensure that the products such as hair gels and sprays do not come in direct contact with your face as they can cause breakouts.
