The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said: Around, 673 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in 24 hours till Friday morning (September-13).
Among them, 229 were hospitalized in Dhaka, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.
The Directorate General of Health Services told that until Thursday, 3,029 patients were being treated at hospitals.
The huge number of patients put a severe strain on the already overwhelmed medical system, said DMCH
This year January, the government said 15,369 dengue patients were hospitalized. Of them, 10,953 were cured and 4,408 others are still undergoing treatment. The government claims that only, 78 people have died of dengue this year but unofficial accounts say the number higher.
Meanwhile, 4 died of dengue disease in Dhaka and khulna on Thursday. Their deaths were reported by the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Most of the dengue cases have been reported from Dhaka. The WHO on Sep-5 said the dengue situation is alarming in Bangladesh but it was not out of control.
