BUET VC assures students of meeting demands

Vice-Chancellor of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Prof Dr Saiful Islam on Tuesday evening has assured the protesting students that their all the demands will be fulfilled. 

The Buet VC Prof Dr Saiful Islam appeared before the students nearly 38 hours after the killing of its student Abrar.

Dr Saiful Islam said that i had been busy contacting ministers and higher authorities to ensure that students’ demands are met. And everything is not under my control.

The Buet VC said that I am in principle supporting your (students) demands and assuring you that I will meet your demands. 

The VC also said that I can’t do anything out of the government decision. We have formed an investigation committee which is now working.

On the other hand, Court here placed 10 expelled Chhatra League leaders and activists of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on a five-day remand each in a case over the killing Abrar Fahad.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury has passed the order when DB inspector Wahiduzzaman on Tuesday, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a 10-day remand for them.

DB inspector Wahiduzzaman told to media that those remanded are BCL Buet unit general secretary Mehedi Hasan Russel, its vice-president Muhtasim Fuad, organising secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, information and research secretary Anik Sarkar, sports secretary Meftahul Islam, literature secretary Moniruzzaman Monir, deputy social welfare secretary Efti Mosharraf Sokal, deputy office secretary Mostoba Rafid and three members Muntasir Al Jami and Ehtemamul Rabbi.

On the other hand, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has expelled them for their involvement in the murder of Abrar Fahad.
