'Sheikh Hasina has killed democracy about Ershad'

BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has killed the country's democracy about the late Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad.

She made the demand while talking to reporters after paying floral tribute at the tomb of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Sherbangla nagor on Monday (September 9) on the occasion of the anniversary of the nationalist women's party.

The late Hussein Muhammad Ershad could not be called a "legitimate president and the Prime Minister made the statement on Sunday, saying that BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has taken 'advantage' after taking over Ershad's power, when asked about the matter, Fakhrul said that he (PM) often says untruths in Parliament. There is no basis for that. History does not even bear witness to that.

Mirza Fakhrul said, Ziaur Rahman was a re-promoter of democracy in Bangladesh and a modernist of modern Bangladesh. One of the soldiers of today's democracy - the government that illegally occupied Khaleda Zia - who has fought for democracy for a lifetime, has been illegally imprisoned.

Fakhrul said, Today, the women's party has taken an oath to liberate Khaleda Zia and restore democracy. We hope that through the combined movement and struggle, we will liberate the country leader Khaleda Zia and democracy.

Also present on the occasion were Afroza Abbas, president of the women's group, general secretary Sultana Ahmed, senior vice president Nur Jahan Yasmin, vice-president Zeba Khan, joint general secretary Helen Jerin Khan, vice president of metropolitan North Meherunnesa Haque, general secretary.
