Referring to the government's ongoing campaign against extortion and corruption, BNP Joint Secretary-General Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal said, “One thing I want to make clear today is that what we are seeing in the media and in various places that are being discussed is puppet dancing.
He said this in a human chain organized by BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia demanding the release of Jatiyo Olama party in front of the National Press Club on Saturday (September 21).
He said, “Today's Prime Minister stands in Parliament and says that the parliament is being run on the basis of the Medina Chanod. What was the Medina Charter? The Medina Chanod states that if a person commits a crime, his group cannot be held responsible by his community to his party. What are you (PM) doing? If you followed that path, then today, Begum Khaleda Zia would not be in jail without guilt. Tareq Rahman did not live outside the country.”
He also said, ''as much as you would like to stop the voice of protest, as much as you would like to threaten to try to propagate, remember one thing - the stink can never be covered by the smell, the odor will spread.''
Alal said, ''So today we want to say - the situation created by this protesting human chain will be far more gracious and far more tragic if the law enforcement agencies are not allowed to act independently without taking immediate action against this mismanagement."
